Impending Hiatus

The Blog of the UW MSTP will be going on another
hiatus of indeterminate time in the near future.

While we can't promise anything in terms of timeline or
future content, there are whispers of an Unofficial UW MSTP
Instagram account in order to keep up with the The Youth.

Stay tuned; it's been a great run!

Model of the Month: May 2018

This month's MSTP Model of the Month features a guest model,
Photo Guy! He's not an official member of the UW MSTP,
but he is well known to a number of us. Photo Guy is one of the many staff
members at the medical school who will show up at various
Medical School Events (in this case, a required lecture session)
and take pictures of you that might be used for UW SMPH
publicity purposes (think: posters, websites, brochures, and more)
without your knowledge or consent!

Here is Photo Guy modeling Zoom Lens Camera.

New KNowledge WedNesday

Letters aren't specifically medical or scientific, but
you'd probably be hard pressed to find a physician or a
scientist (or a physician-scientist) who didn't use letters
on a daily basis in the usual course of their work.

Here's a little history lesson behind some of the tiny
information-storing entities known as letters.

Match Day Recap

The Blog of the UW MSTP would like to extend another
CONGRATULATIONS to all of our graduating M4's who
matched spectacularly last week. They're all off to new
adventures in specialties that included: neurosurgery,
radiology, internal medicine (including some fast trackers!),
dermatology, family medicine, surgery, and neurology.
Good job, everyone!

New KNowledge WedNesday

Beer is kind of a big deal in Madison, WI, so here's a
song to teach you a bit more about it. We're a
little late for St. Patrick's Day proper, but the song is
catchy nonetheless!

It's a Pi-themed day today, so here's a math-themed comic
(of sorts) for you to enjoy! Hopefully everyone out there
is able to celebrate this day with some delicious pie
(and perhaps also with a friend or two).

Hospital Adventures

Anyone who has wandered around the UW Hospital knows that the elevator bays are key for both transportation and navigating from place to place. Somewhere out in the world in a different hospital, a medical student named Joseph found himself trapped alone in an elevator. Rather than panicking, Joseph chose to document the experience on social media. Feel free to check out his adventure here.

Seminar Pizza!

Always remember: there's amazing Glass Nickle Pizza
for dinner at UW MSTP Seminar about once a month.
Just one more reason we've got the best
(and if not the best, because that's subjective,
then THE MOST OBJECTIVELY  DELICIOUS) MSTP around!

Some Last-Minute Science-Related Valentine's Day Suggestions

We at the UW MSTP recognize that there is an entire
spectrum of opinions Valentine's Day and whether or
not its observance results in a net good.
Just in case anyone out there in the pro-Valentine's
camp is feeling pressured to find someone with
whom to celebrate this day at the last minute,
here's some interesting advice on how you might
go about finding that special someone while taking
advantage of some of what behavioral science has
discovered over the years.

Crack Fries from Hop Cat

They may look like ordinary french fries, but they're
quite addicting in all their cheese-sauced glory.
Often enjoyed by students from the UW MSTP who
frequent this downtown location for Wednesday Night Trivia.

It's Our Final UW MSTP Recruiting Weekend of the Season!

The Blog of the UW MSTP would like to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to the 14 amazing individuals interviewing with us today! This weekend, once all the stress of actual interviews is behind us, we're looking forward to taking our recruits to enjoy some local eats, take in a dance performance or attend a UW Hockey game, join us at the Hoofer's Winter Carnival, and end their visit with dinner at the home of one of our associate program directors. We're always so excited to have some new faces visiting us during these weekends!

Quick and Easy 1-Ingredient Recipes

We're all about wellness here at the UW MSTP.
For some people, wellness includes using only the
most uncooked of foods as a means of fueling
their bodies. Whether or not you're one of those
people, please enjoy this recipe for an amazing
one-ingredient raw vegan cucumber pizza!

Students of the UW MSTP have been requesting a presentation
from Dr. Molly Carnes for years. LITERAL YEARS!
(Yes, she's that good and that busy.)
The wait is finally over, and we could not be more excited to hear her
speak on the topic of Women and Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine.

Tonight, 5:15pm, in HSLC 1345.

Current students do not interview applicants who visit the UW MSTP,
so we cannot speak to whether or not exchanges such as the above
have happened during the past few interview visit weekends.

A Warm Welcome to Our Visiting Recruits

We have 15 spectacular people visiting the program today!

We hope you all enjoy your time with our program,
and when you get asked, "Do you have any questions?" for the
twenty-third time today, feel free to ask our opinions
on whether or there is such a thing as too much cheese.
